Question: Where are the March winds blowing valley music lovers? Answer: to the Shenandoah Valley Music Festival Guild luncheon on Thursday, March 19, at Shenvalee Resort in New Market. Gathering time will be 11:30 a.m. for conversation and libation. Lunch will be served at 12:15 p.m. Cost is $22. The public is cordially invited.

The luncheon will include Shenvalee’s Italian Buffet, served in the resort’s elegent dining room and consisting of toasted garlic bread, freshly tossed salad with house-made dressings, baked ziti with meat sauce, fresh green beans and corn. Dessert will be Shenvalee’s house-made apple cobbler. Tea and coffee will be available.

A cash bar of beer, wine and spirits also will be available.

Entertainment will be provided by the Stonewall Jackson High School Jazz Band. The ensemble includes 8th- to 12th-graders who practice together once a week. Many of the students also play secondary instruments and are learning an entirely new set of of music-making skills. The group practices improvisation, learning musical scores by ear and, of course, the “jazz charts” (musical scores) to be performed in concert.

The band is under the direction of Megan Hendrix, director of instrumental music at Stonewall Jackson, who says, “We are so excited to be invited back to the Music Guild luncheon.”

As is our custom, a gratuity basket will be provided in support of the music program of the high school. Checks may be made to Stonewall Jackson High School, with  “Music Department” in the memo line.
